Great conference venue and hotel. Bedrooms are nicely furnished, clean and functional. A few maintenance issues, but staff seemed attentive. Breakfast was well done with a decent selection. Waitstaff were pleasant though not the most efficient - they were great at clearing plates etc, but not at then re-setting places, so finding a seat with all the right cutlery etc could be a challenge. We didn't try lunches or dinners, but heard mixed feedback from other attendees. Decent bar and lounge areas with lots of seating. Conference facilities are very good, lots of small meeting / breakout rooms and a few larger rooms (but no 'ballroom' type space). Nice atrium for mingling and lots of coffee / water stations.
Very nice sauna and swimming pool. Dinner was buffet style. Pleasant. The puddings where amazing.
Clean tidy room.
Old but nice hotel. They have airconditioning and heating. The shower temperature is not hard to control, good water pressure too. Clean sheets but you can tell that it's old. My 4yo daughter had a good sleep but for some reason I feel like it's mildy triggering allergy for me. The breakfast was wonderful. Pleasant and attentive staff. Quiet room and restaurant.
For what you are paying for, the rooms are smaller compared to Mitchell Hall. Yes it is more swish with key cards, a gym, sauna, a pool etc. but unless you know that you will be using any of the last three features during your stay, the extra cost is, in my opinion, not worth it. The price of the breakfast shocked me, where the cost was PS15 for the full English, compared to Mitchell Hall (with the student discount) for exactly the same meal which was PS10 cheaper. A big saving! Also, considering the cost, not having a proper working heater in the room, instead relying on a small portable heater provided, is not what I'd expect. So overall, good as a last minute option but not worth the cost.
Everything went well. No standout positives or negatives.
