Liam, George and Ben were all brilliant and extremely helpful. I went from being completely unable to ride a bike having never touched one to passing both my Mod 1 and 2 first time in a handful of sessions.

I recently attended a CBT (Compulsory Basic Training (CBT)) at the Ridgeway Centre in Milton Keynes and left feeling very disappointed with the experience.
I understand that CBT is competency-based and not everyone passes on the day. However, my concerns relate to how the training was conducted and the fairness of the decision-making.
From early on, I raised concerns about the bike I was given. The throttle felt overly sensitive and difficult to manage. The instructor acknowledged this and even suggested that, due to my size, I might be better suited to a bigger bike. However, this was never followed through, and I remained on the same bike for the session.
Despite this, I completed the required off-road elements (including manoeuvres such as figure of eight, control exercises, and signalling) without coming off the bike and felt I was performing at a similar level to other riders who were later taken out on the road.
It became clear by around midday that only two riders would be taken out due to instructor limitations, and I was the one not selected to continue. This gave the impression that the decision had already been made earlier in the day, rather than being based purely on performance at that point.
The equipment provided also did not fit properly. The helmet was extremely tight, gloves were too small and restricted movement, and the high-visibility vest did not fit securely. Boots in my size were not available. This level of discomfort affects confidence and control when riding.
Additionally, the course is advertised as including classroom-based training, yet the theory session was conducted outside next to a container, which did not match what was advertised.
The course was advertised as running from 7am to 4pm, but my session effectively ended around midday without being given the opportunity to complete the full day.
I was then advised to return for a continuation session at an additional cost of PS120. Given the issues with equipment, the bike concerns that were not addressed, and the limited opportunity due to instructor capacity, I do not feel this is fair.
For context, I have previously completed CBT, so I am not new to riding and had expected a more consistent and structured experience.
Overall, I felt the experience did not reflect what was advertised, and I would encourage the provider to review equipment availability, bike allocation, and trainee-to-instructor capacity to ensure fairness for all learners

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We take all comments from our students seriously as they help us continually improve our motorcycle training courses.

We're sorry to hear you felt the equipment hindered your experience. While we provide a wide range of safety gear, including XXXL helmets, we recognise that finding a perfect fit can be challenging. We encourage students to contact us in advance if specialist or plus-sized gear is required; this allows us to transfer specific equipment from our other locations to ensure a comfortable fit on the day.

The motorcycle you were allocated was a new Honda CB125F; the largest manual machine we have available for this level of training. We often discuss future options--like larger A-licence machines--to help riders plan their progression. However for the CBT itself, 125cc bikes are required to meet the DVSA's compulsory basic training requirements.

We understand the frustration of not proceeding to the road elements of your CBT course, but our priority is your safety, both on and off the road. Progression to Element E is strictly competency-based. Our instructors provided 1-2-1 tuition for the duration of your morning session to help you refine machine control and braking. Unfortunately, because these core skills weren't consistent, we couldn't safely move to the on-road stage. This decision is always based on rider safety and meeting DVSA benchmarks.

We also appreciate your comments regarding the facilities and while the classroom elements refer to the content of the course rather than the location, we're currently working with the Ridgeway Centre to improve our on-site classroom facilities.

We would be happy to discuss how we can support your return to riding in a way that feels fair and productive for you. Please feel free to reach out to us directly.

I completed my CBT with Phoenix Motorcycle Training in Milton Keynes on 21st April, and I am very happy with the overall experience and the quality of training.

At first, I was very nervous, but the trainer was extremely friendly and helped me feel comfortable and confident. He was highly knowledgeable and explained everything clearly, which made the learning process much easier.

I would especially like to thank my trainer, Hughes, for his support and guidance throughout the training.

Overall, it was a great experience, and I would highly recommend this training centre to anyone looking to complete their CBT.
