City Centre Aglow for Festival
Central Milton Keynes was illuminated this past weekend as thousands gathered for the City of Codes & Light festival. This free event brought together families, local communities, and visitors for an evening of light-based art, performances, and a vibrant lantern parade.
A Celebration of Art and Science
Organised by Milton Keynes Islamic Arts & Culture (MKIAC), the festival transformed the city centre with a variety of attractions. The theme for this year’s event was ‘Moon Colonies – Future Architecture’. It encouraged attendees to explore ideas about life beyond Earth through a blend of art, science, and technology.
A significant highlight was ‘Lunar Phase’, a large-scale projection created by Limbic Cinema. This artwork illuminated the Church of Christ the Cornerstone, providing a striking visual centrepiece.
The community lantern parade added a dynamic element, parading light and colour through the streets of Central Milton Keynes. This procession concluded at Fred Roche Gardens.
Community Engagement and Entertainment
The celebrations extended throughout the evening, featuring a notable cathedral light tunnel. Live music, diverse performances, and family entertainment were also on offer. Attendees experienced the city centre in a new and engaging way.
Approximately 6,000 people are estimated to have attended the festival. This significant turnout highlights the community’s enthusiasm for such cultural events.
Anouar Kassim MBE, Founder and CEO of MKIAC, commented on the event’s success. He noted the festival’s aim to unite communities through creativity. The enjoyment of families and visitors was a key measure of the evening’s success.
