A significant new facility for adults with complex disabilities in Milton Keynes is approaching its final stages of development. Linford Wood Place, located near the Linford Wood area, is undergoing a comprehensive refurbishment to become a modern hub for specialised care and support.

State-of-the-art facilities for complex needs

The transformation of the existing building involves a complete redesign to offer high-quality spaces. These will accommodate short breaks, day services, and tailored specialist support for up to 59 adults each weekday. The project prioritised practical considerations, with input from the families of future service users throughout the key design phases.

Structural work on the 1.7-acre site is now finished. The next steps involve completing internal decoration, fitting furniture, and preparing the centre’s therapeutic outdoor areas, which are situated adjacent to woodland. This extensive project represents a major investment in local adult care services.

Supporting residents and their carers

Linford Wood Place is designed to offer essential short breaks, providing much-needed respite for family members who provide care at home. The centre will feature 13 en-suite bedrooms, alongside various activity areas. These include a training kitchen, a cinema, and dedicated rooms for art and music. Specialist equipment, such as hoists, will also be installed to ensure comprehensive care.

Private gardens are a key element, offering service users opportunities to engage with outdoor spaces. The facility aims to enhance the quality of life for individuals with complex disabilities and support the wellbeing of their carers within the Milton Keynes community.

Investment in local services

Milton Keynes City Council has allocated £13 million to this project. A portion of this funding, specifically £4 million, was secured through contributions from housing developers. Building work is scheduled to conclude in November, with the first service users expected to begin using the centre shortly thereafter.
