Local Filmmakers Receive BFI Support

Two aspiring filmmakers from Milton Keynes have secured grants from the British Film Institute (BFI) to advance their careers. These awards aim to provide practical assistance during a crucial phase of their artistic development.

The grants are designed to help young creatives transition the abilities and self-assurance gained from their film education into real-world opportunities.

Both recipients are alumni of a British Film Institute short course, which was delivered by the local Film Academy Milton Keynes (FAMK).

Funding for Production and Equipment

One filmmaker was awarded £200 to contribute towards the production costs of their upcoming short film. The second filmmaker received £150 to help purchase essential filmmaking equipment.

These funds will support their ongoing growth as they embark on university studies in film.

Access to resources for film creation, acquiring necessary gear, and continuing skill enhancement can be pivotal in transforming a creative aspiration into a realised career path.

Nana Ofori-Atta, Founder and CEO of Film Academy Milton Keynes, highlighted the significance of such support. She stated that these grants exemplify the positive outcomes when young individuals receive training and subsequent encouragement.

Investing in Future Talent

Ofori-Atta noted that while amounts like £200 or £150 might appear small, they can have a substantial impact on a young filmmaker’s journey. Such funding can facilitate the completion of a project or the acquisition of equipment that will serve their educational needs for several years.

The BFI’s continued investment in youth education and creative development was also acknowledged.

The success of these two individuals underscores the importance of establishing accessible routes into the screen industries. This is particularly vital for young people who might otherwise lack the necessary connections, equipment, or financial backing to pursue their filmmaking ambitions in areas like Milton Keynes.
