Milton Keynes MPs demand Royal Mail action on postal delays

September 18, 2026 2 min read MKLBD Newsroom via MKFM

Milton Keynes Members of Parliament have jointly written to the UK’s communications regulator, Ofcom, to address ongoing issues with postal delivery services within the city.

Concerns over service targets

The letter calls on Ofcom to increase its oversight and ensure Royal Mail is held accountable for consistently failing to meet its service delivery obligations. Royal Mail is legally required to deliver 90% of first-class mail the day after posting and 95% of second-class mail within three working days.

All three city MPs believe these targets are not being met across Milton Keynes, leading to significant disruption for residents. The MPs also expressed concern that Royal Mail has not adequately acknowledged or communicated the reasons behind these persistent delays to the public or their elected representatives.

Impact on residents

Numerous households in Milton Keynes have experienced extended waits for important mail in recent months. This includes critical documents such as correspondence from healthcare providers, essential billing information, and personal communications from family members.

The situation has caused considerable anxiety for residents who rely on timely postal services for vital information. The MPs have been actively campaigning on this issue since last year, engaging with the problem through various means.

Local action and support for postal workers

Their efforts have included visits to local sorting offices and the organisation of a public petition. The matter has also been raised directly with government ministers in Parliament in a bid to find a resolution for Milton Keynes.

The Milton Keynes parliamentary representatives have stressed that their campaign is not aimed at local postal workers. They explicitly stated their support for the dedicated staff who are working diligently to deliver mail across the city, often under challenging circumstances.

Emily Darlington, Member of Parliament for Milton Keynes Central, commented on the situation, stating, “The delays to post across Milton Keynes are simply unacceptable, and Royal Mail must take responsibility.”

She further added her commitment to ensuring the city receives reliable postal services, noting that residents deserve a dependable system for their important mail.
