MK organisations earn youth safety award
Sixty organisations across Milton Keynes have been awarded the City Council’s Youth Safe Practice Mark. This recognition celebrates groups that have demonstrated high standards in ensuring the safety and well-being of young people.
The mark, introduced in 2023, is granted to clubs, groups, and organisations that adhere to specific safety requirements. These standards cover essential areas such as having strong policies, ensuring staff and volunteers are trained, and implementing clear procedures to foster a sense of confidence and respect among young participants.
Benefits for local groups and young people
Achieving the Youth Safe Practice Mark offers tangible benefits. Awarded organisations gain access to complimentary training sessions. They also become eligible to apply for supplementary funding.
This additional financial support has already enabled local groups to acquire new equipment, offer activities at reduced costs, and lower expenses for items like membership fees and sportswear. The aim is to make participation more accessible for a wider range of young people in Milton Keynes.
Diverse groups recognised
A variety of organisations have successfully obtained the mark. These include sports clubs, arts and culture groups, faith-based communities, and various local community projects. Many more organisations are currently working towards meeting the safety criteria.
The application process involves an online submission that is evaluated by a dedicated panel. While the application itself is free, organisations must reapply each year to maintain their certification and continue using the Youth Safe Practice Mark.
