Police operations focus on domestic abuse in Milton Keynes

Thames Valley Police conducted a significant day of action across Milton Keynes on August 27, specifically targeting domestic abuse and aiming to support victims. The initiative involved officers, police staff, and partner agencies working collaboratively.

The core message conveyed throughout the operation was one of reassurance to individuals experiencing domestic abuse. Authorities emphasised that victims are not alone and that dedicated support structures are in place to assist them.

Inspector Jacqui Baverstock, part of the Milton Keynes local command unit, highlighted the ongoing priority Thames Valley Police places on tackling domestic abuse due to its profound impact. The day’s activities were designed to ensure victims were aware of available help.

Enforcement and safeguarding efforts

During the August 27 operation, law enforcement officers apprehended 10 individuals. Among these arrests, two were linked to the Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit, and one offender was charged for violating a domestic violence protection order.

Further actions saw one suspect taken to prison for failing to attend court. Four individuals were released on conditional police bail pending ongoing investigations, while four others were released with no further action required at that time.

Beyond arrests, the operation gathered crucial intelligence. This information is intended to bolster current investigations and inform future enforcement activities aimed at perpetrators of domestic abuse.

The day also included focused efforts on safeguarding and providing updates to victims. Officers worked to offer reassurance and guide individuals towards necessary support services.

Community engagement and support networks

A community engagement event took place at centre:MK, bringing together police with representatives from the Milton Keynes Community Safety Partnership. Domestic abuse charities, LGBTQ+ groups, and local drug and alcohol services also participated.

This collaborative stand facilitated numerous positive interactions with the public. These conversations served to increase awareness about domestic abuse and the range of support services available within the Milton Keynes community.

Individuals experiencing domestic abuse or concerned about someone else can contact Thames Valley Police by calling 101 or reporting online. In emergency situations, the public should always dial 999.

Confidential support is also accessible through local domestic abuse services and national helplines, such as the National Domestic Abuse Helpline at 0808 2000 247.
