Three key public buildings in Milton Keynes are scheduled for connection to a new low-carbon heat network. This initiative is being funded by £4.35 million obtained by Milton Keynes City Council from the Government’s Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme.
Work to begin soon
Milton Keynes City Council has approved a contract with Fair Heat. This company will undertake the necessary building work to prepare the Civic building, the Central Library, and Woughton Leisure Centre for integration into the heat network.
Benefits for the city
The project aims to reduce the reliance on traditional gas heating for these public facilities. It will achieve this by utilising heat that would otherwise be wasted, thereby cutting carbon emissions. This approach also offers protection against future fluctuations in gas prices.
This development aligns with the city council’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions. Furthermore, it establishes the groundwork for a potential expansion of the heat network to supply low-carbon heating solutions to homes and businesses across Milton Keynes in the future.
