Milton Keynes City Council is considering a £2.5 million investment aimed at acquiring additional council properties. This initiative seeks to provide permanent accommodation for local families more rapidly.
The proposal, scheduled for a decision next week, would enable the council to purchase larger homes. These properties are intended for residents currently housed in temporary accommodation.
While new council home construction is ongoing, with 183 homes recently completed at The Lakes Estate in Bletchley and 66 more due at Acre Lodge in 2028, these developments take considerable time.
Faster Access to Housing
Acquiring existing properties offers a quicker route to securing affordable housing for families in need. This approach complements the council’s long-term building programme.
The £2.5 million funding would come from Right to Buy receipts. This means money generated from the sale of former council homes will be reinvested into providing new affordable housing for Milton Keynes residents.

A key objective of this investment is to secure larger family homes. Demand for these types of properties is particularly high within the city.
