YMCA Milton Keynes Unveils Ambitious Five-Year Strategy
YMCA South Midlands has introduced a comprehensive five-year strategy designed to significantly enhance its services for young individuals throughout Milton Keynes.
The plan, titled ‘Here for Good’, was officially revealed at Christ the Cornerstone Church. The launch event saw an attendance of 130 individuals, including community members, business representatives, and charity partners.
Key Priorities for Youth Development
The ‘Here for Good’ strategy is built around six core objectives. These include expanding the successful campus model, enhancing educational programmes, and establishing new accommodation specifically for 16 and 17-year-olds.
Additionally, the strategy aims to increase the availability of affordable housing for employed young people and improve the charity’s financial resilience. A central focus is also placed on amplifying the voices and needs of young people within the community.
Expansion and Local Impact
A notable element of the strategy involves the potential creation of a new YMCA campus in Northampton. This facility would mirror the successful model currently operating in Central Milton Keynes and could potentially assist up to 200 young people annually.
Locally, within Milton Keynes, the YMCA plans to develop an additional 90 affordable homes. These homes are intended for young people who are in employment, addressing a critical need for stable and accessible housing.
During the launch, leadership including Chair Jenny Walker, Trustee Liz Harvey, and Chief Executive Simon Green shared insights into the charity’s vision. Simon Green highlighted the strategy’s foundation in the expressed needs of young people, such as secure housing, educational and employment support, and advocacy.
The YMCA emphasised that achieving these ambitious goals will require collaborative efforts with businesses, partners, and the wider South Midlands community.
