Milton Keynes City Council approves new strategy for its garage sites

Milton Keynes City Council has given the green light to a comprehensive five-year strategy for its extensive garage holdings.

Refreshing garage facilities

The Garages Asset Management Strategy will oversee the council’s more than 2,000 garages and carports. The plan aims to invest in garages that are popular with residents, while also redeveloping sites that are currently unwanted, derelict, or vandalised.

This redevelopment will focus on creating new facilities that better serve the needs of the local community.

Benefits for residents and council

The strategy seeks to reduce long-term costs for the council and generate funds through the sale of selected sites. Surplus land will be transformed into much-needed housing, additional parking, and electric vehicle charging points.

By managing a smaller, better-maintained portfolio, the council anticipates lower maintenance expenses, offering better value for taxpayers. Residents living near former garage sites can expect to see these areas turned into valuable community assets instead of neglected spaces that may attract anti-social behaviour.

A strategic approach

The overarching goal is to ensure that garage sites are used effectively, providing practical benefits and improving the local environment for people across Milton Keynes.
