Record Attendance for MK Holiday Programme
Milton Keynes City Council’s Holiday Fun and Food programme has achieved its highest attendance levels since its inception five years ago. This summer, approximately 4,200 children and young people are participating in the initiative.
The scheme offers a substantial 23,000 free activity sessions, complete with meals, for youngsters eligible for benefit-related free school meals. This provision aims to enrich children’s experiences during the long summer break and offer financial relief to families facing increased costs.
Activities and Accessibility
The programme provides opportunities for children to engage in new activities and receive nutritious meals throughout the summer holidays, extending until August 20.
Families of eligible children can book up to 16 sessions per child. Importantly, all activities are designed to be inclusive, welcoming children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
Community Impact
An increase of 700 participants compared to previous years highlights the growing demand and success of the council’s efforts. Events are being held in various locations across the city, including schools like Germander Park School, where MK Dons have partnered with the council to run sessions.
